Challenger Families,
Next week we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. This is a time set aside to recognize the incredible work happening in our classrooms every single day. I know how busy life can get, but I hope you can take a moment to help us honor the dedicated staff here at Challenger. I may be a bit partial, but I truly believe our students are learning from some of the very best.
While much of what teachers do is visible such as planning thoughtful lessons, supporting student learning, and managing the day-to-day routines of a classroom...that only scratches the surface. The impact our staff has on students goes far beyond academics and extends into the relationships they build and the care they show.
Our teachers consistently go above and beyond to support the whole child. They notice when something feels off and take the time to check in. They celebrate successes, both big and small. They provide comfort during difficult moments, find creative ways to engage students, and often give more of themselves than anyone ever sees. From organizing meaningful experiences like field trips, holiday celebrations, Title I family night, House activities, to the countless small gestures that make students feel known and valued, our staff’s commitment is remarkable.
It is truly an honor to serve alongside such a passionate and caring team of educators and support staff. As we head into Teacher Appreciation Week, I invite you to join me in recognizing their efforts. A quick note, a kind email, or a few words of gratitude can go a long way in lifting spirits as we head into the final weeks of the school year.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our Challenger staff and students.
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Cherry

Finishing the Year Strong
Howell Public Schools is committed to helping every student become “Future Ready for college, careers, and life.” This year, our newsletters have featured quick, plug-and-play tips you can use at home to support your child in building the skills they need for a successful future.
As we head into the final stretch of the school year, it’s a great time to help children build the important life skill of finishing strong. Staying motivated, managing responsibilities, and following through - even when excitement for summer is building - are skills that will serve them well far beyond the classroom.
Here are a few simple ways you can support your child at home:
- Set small goals together: Help your child identify 1–2 things they want to improve or complete before the end of the year (finishing a book series, staying organized, turning in all assignments).
- Celebrate effort, not just results: Recognize persistence, responsibility, and positive attitude - even in small moments.
- Keep routines consistent: Maintaining regular bedtimes, homework time, and screen limits helps children stay focused and regulated.
- Talk about “why it matters”: Remind your child that finishing strong builds confidence and shows pride in their work.
- Look ahead with excitement: Balance hard work with something to look forward to - summer plans, family time, or a fun end-of-year tradition.
With encouragement and structure, students can end the year feeling proud, confident, and ready for what’s next!
