Happy Halloween Challenger Families,
I hope you all have/had a safe and fun evening of trick-or-treating! I will be the first to sign the petition to move it to the last Friday of October. Today was a fantastic day at Challenger and now we get to send all the kids home for the weekend full of candy energy! Ha!
As we wrap up a wonderful fall season, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support. The start of the school year always brings excitement and the challenge of getting routines in place, but our students, staff, and families have done an amazing job. We are now in full swing with our curriculum, and our students continue to show what it means to C.A.R.E., which means being Compassionate, Accountable, Respectful, and Engaged.
As we head into the second marking period, I encourage everyone to keep up the great habits we’ve built together. During the colder months, we often see absences increase and academic engagement, like completing homework or nightly reading, start to slip. Please help us keep students focused on being their best academically, socially, and emotionally.
If your family needs any support, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, our counselor, support staff, or me. We’re here to help!
Mr. Cherry

Howell Fifth and Sixth-grade Exhibition Cheer Team
The Howell Cheer Program will hold tryouts for its Fifth and Sixth-grade Exhibition Cheer Team on Nov. 17–18 from 6–8 p.m. on the balcony of the Howell High School Fieldhouse. The team will perform at all Howell Middle School competitive cheer meets this season. While this team follows the same schedule as the Seventh and Eighth-grade Competitive Cheer teams, the fifth and sixth-grade team is exhibition-only, allowing younger athletes to gain valuable experience and showcase their Highlander spirit in a supportive, developmental environment. DEVELOPING HEALTHY ROUTINES
Howell Public Schools is committed to helping every student become “Future Ready for college, careers, and life.” This year, our newsletters will feature quick, plug-and-play tips you can use at home to support your child in building the skills they need for a successful future.
Halloween fun can leave kids a little tired, sugared-up, and off their routine. A few small resets can help everyone get back on track:
- Get moving: Fresh air and play help burn off extra energy
- Refuel: Focus on water and balanced meals after all the candy
- Name it: Remind your child it’s normal to feel tired after all the excitement
Small, consistent routines like these can make a big difference in helping students regulate after energizing activities and establish healthy routines - skills that will help them become Future Ready for college, careers, and life!
