One School, One Book
For the first time ever, families and staff at Challenger are a part of a special book club called One School, One Book. Every family has received a copy of The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies and have been following a calendar so that each family is reading the book together. This opportunity is provided by Read to Them, a non-profit organization that promotes literacy in every home. Reading at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader. With the One School, One Book program, we aim to build a community of readers at our school!
A week before the students received the book, lemons started to appear all around the school. Mr. Cherry even ate a lemon on the morning announcements! Many students were curious why there were so many lemons in the hallways! We kicked off this reading event the following week with an assembly to get the students excited about the book! Staff members acted in a skit to show the students a lemonade war! The students were very excited when Mr. Cherry told them that each family would receive a book to read with their families at home! You could hear the cheers throughout the school! During lunch that afternoon, our Student Council served lemonade to all of the students! What a delicious treat! Each morning that a chapter is due, we have trivia! We ask the students a question from the chapter that was due and they bring their answer from their class to a location to win a prize for their lemonade pitcher. Prizes have included- lemons, straws, lemon cookies, etc. We even have surprise bonus questions!

We still have some more events planned through March and we are very excited to see how the book ends!
