Challenger Chronicle 6-8-18

Parents-

In four days, we will put a wrap on our 17-18 school year.  Although no year is ever easy or perfect, I can say that this year was a year of fun, growth, and learning.  I just want to share a few "Thanks" to many of you reading this newsletter.

Thank you to our parents.  Thanks for your effort each day to ensure your child is in school and ready to learn.  It may be standing at the bus stop in zero degree weather, staying up late to complete that project on the last night of your child's two week deadline, or making 180 PB & J sandwiches, we appreciate everything you do!

Thank you to our volunteers.  A simple paragraph in a newsletter doesn't begin to describe the countless hours you have given to make Challenger a better place to work, learn, and visit.  Our PTO is an amazing group that continues to give their heart and soul to our school!

Thank you to our teachers and staff.  Everyone that works at Challenger plays an important role in making this team work flawlessly.  I am so appreciative of everyone that comes to work everyday to support our students.  I couldn't ask for a better team of professionals.

Thank you to our Students.  You are the reason we are all here.  It is our hope that each of you have a future that is full of possibilities!  I have been so impressed by this group of students this year.  You have put your best effort forth with learning, being a kind friend, and respecting our school.

Thanks to our entire Challenger Family!

As the school year winds down, I encourage all of us to share our thanks, gratitude, and appreciation to someone that has made our year the "BEST YEAR EVER!"  You never know how a simple word of praise can make someone's moment, day, or year!

Mr. Cherry

The Highlander Reading Express, the district's new literacy bus is nearing completion.  Next week our students will have an opportunity to see the bus when it makes a stop at our school. If everything goes according to plan, The Highlander Reading Express will begin running on Tuesday, June 19. To see a list of places The Highlander Reading Express will be this summer, please visit HowellSchools.com/BookBus. The district is still waiting for approval for some locations and adding some special events, so be sure to check the website often.

Imagine what the world would look like if every child had a caring adult that listened to them, nurtured their self-esteem, and showed them the possibilities of the world.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Livingston County is currently recruiting caring volunteers who are willing to mentor (and share lunch with) an elementary student twice a month. We currently have a long list of “littles” waiting and hoping to be matched with a “big.”

If you know of anyone (parents, friends) who could provide this opportunity for a Howell elementary student, please reach out to Alyson Mapes at [email protected] or 517-546-1140.

For more information and other opportunities to support our community, please reach out to your school counselor!
